Myke Karlowski is a visual artist whose focus is painting, printmaking, and installation. The artist experiences synesthesia, associating time, numerals, letters, concepts, and personalities to color. These color associations inform the palette of his work.

Karlowski grew up in Monmouth County, New Jersey and pursued drawing and painting at an early age. He attended Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and later the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), in Philadelphia, where he majored in painting.

During the summer of 2014, Karlowski received a scholarship as an artist-in-residence at the Horned Dorset Artist Colony, Leonardsville, NY. He later went on to intern with ColArt Americas, Inc., working with art supply brands Liquitex, Winsor & Newton, and Arches Paper. In 2016 the Art Students’ League of New York awarded him a Distinguished Artist Scholarship to attend the League Residency at Vytlacil.

That same year, he collaborated with music composer Nirmali Fenn and music composition students at Yale-NUS College in Singapore, to develop the visual concept for the production “Wassily Kandinsky’s: The Yellow Sound”. Karlowski painted and sculpted pieces for the stage and props for the production. Inspired by Kandinsky’s stage-composition and interest in synesthesia, Karlowski began a body of work investigating his own experiences with the cognitive phenomenon.
